Q. What are some of the general steps in building a home?

A. Well, the first step is choosing the best land for constructing a home. Then we draw up plans and get city or county approval. Once we own the land, we get the site ready for construction, trench and install plumbing, pour foundation and frame the walls. After that we build the framework that supports the roof and install the heating, plumbing and electrical systems. If there are fireplaces, this is when they go in as well. Next comes roofing, lathing, insulation and drywall. Cabinets and countertops also get installed around this time. With that completed comes the application of the exterior surface, like stucco. On the inside, we then add the fun stuff, like plumbing fixtures and door hardware, paint the walls, install appliances, and, of course, the roof. Finally, we put in the driveway, carpeting and tile, paint exterior trim and turn on the electrical. What's left is up to you!
